About The Edmond and Lily Safra Centre for Brain Sciences

The Edmond and Lily Safra Centre for Brain Sciences:
"Building the future of Brain Sciences"

Understanding the enigma of the Brain is the most challenging endeavor of the 21st century. The human brain is the source of remarkable sensory, motor and emotional capabilities, but it is also at the core of many debilitating diseases.

The Edmond and Lily Safra Centre for Brain Sciences (ELSC) builds upon Hebrew University's record of excellence and innovation in its multidisciplinary approach to brain science. ELSC researchers focus on several broad areas of inquiry including genes and neurons, neural networks and plasticity, cognitive neuroscience, and sensory and motor functions.

ELSC provides an intellectual environment where interdisciplinary teams of neuroscientists can take brain research to an entirely new level, advancing our understanding of brain function and developing effective new therapeutic or preventive approaches to a spectrum of devastating brain disorders.

Foster + Partners, led by Founder and Chairman Norman Foster, have accepted to be the architect of the project, their first one in Israel. They promise to set new standards in quality, reflecting ELSC's interactive, interdisciplinary approach to brain research and raising it to a new level.
