The Hebrew University’s massive documents archive contains material dating back more than a century, including from the period before the formal opening of the University in 1925.
This gem of a letter shows us that fundraising continued even during World War II.
In it, Chaim Weizmann writes to The Hebrew University authorising the application of close to £1000 for the purposes of meeting The Hebrew University’s most pressing needs.
The fund from which monies were to be withdrawn was established in the name of Lord (Viscount Herbert Louis) Samuel, first British High Commissioner to Palestine from 1920-1925.
