From transforming skin cells to medically relevant skin-types to future cell rejuvenation therapy
Featuring Professor Yossi Buganim
Yosef (Yossi) Buganim is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He received his undergraduate degrees from Bar-Ilan University and his PhD from the Weizmann Institute.
His postdoctoral training on nuclear reprogramming techniques were conducted at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, MIT
Buganim was the first to generate induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) without ‘Yamanaka’s’ factors’ and his own group is pioneering the conversion of skin cells into placental stem cells. It was the first to demonstrate the induction of all the three blastocyst cell types with one combination of factors. Currently, Prof Buganim’s lab is focused on new paradigms to convert skin-cells into various medically-relevant skin types and to improve the current models for future medical use. He has received many international grants and awards.
